Welcome to the Louisiana State University Internal Medicine Residency Program web site. I am very proud of our Internal Medicine program at LSU Shreveport.  My pride takes root in our philosophy of education, our dedicated faculty and our excellent residents. Foremost, we emphasize teaching the information and skill sets that will allow our residents to diagnose and treat complicated illness while simultaneously learning how to provide routine medical care. We similarly focus on teaching the communication skills that allow our residents to form effective therapeutic relationships with their patients. The Department of Medicine and our residency program strive to uphold the university’s highest standards, emphasizing the values of excellent patient care and professionalism. Our house officers are given a chance to mature in an environment that fosters clinical and professional growth. We have an engaged faculty that recognizes the important role that house officers play in the care of our patients.  We have developed a formal teaching program that integrates patient care in a way that encourages education to thrive in a busy clinical environment. The educational experience is further enriched by our great patient diversity, which allows us to recognize anmanage all stages of illness.

Our house officers often have different career plans and we have a diverse faculty that can help nurture those plans and enrich personal career paths.  We have great respect for those interested in primary care as well as those who plan careers in subspecialty medicine. We recognize that house officers are often the driving force in effecting positive changes in the delivery of excellent health care. We thus encourage input from our residents as we continuously attempt to improve our program.

I hope that you will take time to look through the following web pages and evaluate what we have to offer.  Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.  I look forward to hearing from you.
