Emergency Core Residency

Program Director's Message

Mary Ann Edens, MD

On behalf of the Department of Emergency Medicine at LSU Health Shreveport, I appreciate your interest in our Emergency Medicine Resident Training Program. Our faculty is excited to have the opportunity to train our residents to become excellent clinical emergency physicians. The resources of this department along with its faculty will provide a strong foundation that our graduates will use in their future practice.

The fully accredited residency program that our faculty has developed offers excellence in teaching and academic standards, a well-balanced and complete curriculum, and a supportive and friendly environment. Our full-time faculty will work with you to help you to prepare for your future in Emergency Medicine, a specialty that is constantly evolving in a very exciting manner. We expect our graduates to be fully prepared to practice in any academic or clinical environment of their choosing. We want them to be the future leaders and educators within our specialty.

Everyone is excited about our new ED and the possibilities that it provides for resident education. We are blessed to have an appreciative patient population with a diverse pathology which provides our residents with opportunities to fully develop their clinical knowledge and skills. In this environment, lifelong learning methods are emphasized to our residents providing the tools to maintain current clinical knowledge for the duration of their careers.

For potential residents, we are looking for individuals who are willing to go beyond their residency training by taking an active role in enhancing our new program. We will expect each class to provide us with feedback and constructive criticism as they go through our rotations and curriculum, seeking to improve all educational opportunities.

Therefore, we will consider all applicants with prior residency training and well as graduating medical students of all backgrounds. We are in the ERAS system and will be participating in the NRMP resident matching program this year. Please feel free to contact us for application information.

I look forward to meeting with you personally to discuss our exciting residency program.
