Visiting Medical Student Guidelines

We are no longer accepting applications for the remaining blocks through May 2018. Please do not contact us inquiring about applying for these remaining blocks.  If you have recently mailed in an application, it will not be processed.

Applications for electives in July 2018 will be available in late May on this webpage. Please check back at that time for more information. 

Eligibility

Students who have already earned the equivalent of the MD degree at the time of application or by the time of the start date of the elective are not eligible to apply. Please review our observership policy if you are interested in this opportunity.

LSUHSC – Shreveport welcomes qualified international visiting medical students into the senior elective program. Students who are in their final year of medical school are eligible to apply. Applicants must be in good academic standing at their home school,have completed the required core clerkships, must have their school's approval to participate in the desired elective and must have health and liability insurance coverage.

Notification or approval or denial

All components of the application should be mailed in one package. Applications may be denied if all component parts have not been received. Students will be notified of approval or denial minimum of 4 weeks prior to the start date of the requested elective. 

Cancellation Policy

In the event of cancellation, please immediately notify the Registrar’s Office at least one month advance notice.
